The BMBF-Forschungsschwerpunkt
FSP 202 - ALICE is a research network of German universities and GSI Helmholzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung Darmstadt.
Participating institutions
The research focus is on the study of Quark-Gluon Plasma
produced in nucleus-nucleus collisions at
the Large Hadron Collider
at
CERN with the
ALICE experiment.
The network provided a major contribution in building two main
components of the ALICE detector, the Time Projection Chamber (TPC) and the
Transition Radiation Detector (TPC) as well as operating and calibrating these systems.
It is also instrumental in the High-Level Trigger (HLT) system.
The Upgrade program of ALICE, which will allow a significant step in the physics reach, is currently the focus of FSP 202, together with physics with data collected in Run 1 and Run 2.
The german theory community working on ALICE-related physics is part of FSP 202.
